The Nights of Qadr (19th, 21st and 23rd)

Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Power, is “better than a thousand months” (Qur’an 97:3). Shia narrations direct believers to seek it in the 19th, 21st and 23rd nights of Ramadan. The 19th and 21st also mark the wounding and martyrdom of Imam Ali (a.s.) in Kufa in 40 AH. Common acts on these nights include ghusl, staying awake in worship, reciting Dua Jawshan al-Kabir, asking forgiveness and placing the Qur’an on the head.
