How We Vet and Train Our Teachers

Parents choosing an online Quran teacher for their child are trusting a stranger with real access — over video, one-on-one — to their family. We don’t think a general claim of “qualified teachers” is enough. Here’s exactly what a teacher at Al Mehdi Online Quran Center has to go through, both before they teach their first class and for as long as they keep teaching with us. This process is one part of our wider Child Safety & Safeguarding commitments.

1. Certification Requirements

Every teacher must hold, at minimum:

  • A 6-year education qualification in Quranic and Islamic studies from a registered institute or Jamia
  • At least 2 years of prior online teaching experience
  • Official certification from their institute, plus a reference letter from the Principal or Director confirming their standing

2. Application & Interview Process

  1. CV/resume review — we screen every applicant’s teaching background and qualifications before moving forward.
  2. In-person interview — shortlisted candidates attend a physical interview, bringing hard copies of all certifications and credentials for us to verify directly.
  3. Criminal record check — we request an official criminal record check from the candidate’s city police department.
  4. Hiring decision — a teacher is only brought onto our roster once their record comes back clean and every credential has been verified.

3. Trial Teaching Period

New teachers begin with a 3-month probationary period, during which we actively monitor:

  • Parent and student feedback after early classes
  • Punctuality and class preparation
  • Whether the teaching pace and style suit the specific student

A teacher only moves to a permanent roster placement once this period is complete and feedback is positive.

4. Ongoing Quality Review

Vetting doesn’t stop once a teacher is confirmed. Every month, we collect direct feedback from parents about their child’s classes and actively encourage them to be honest and specific about any issues. Alongside this, we carry out random monitoring of teachers on an ongoing basis, rather than relying on parent feedback alone.
