Imam Muhammad ibn Ali al-Baqir (a.s.) is the fifth Imam of the Ahlulbayt. He was born in Madinah on 1 Rajab, 57 AH, the son of Imam Zain-ul-Abideen (a.s.), and was present at Karbala as a young child. He was martyred in 114 AH and is buried in Jannat al-Baqi in Madinah.His title al-Baqir means “the one who splits open knowledge”. Narrations report that the Holy Prophet (s) told his companion Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari that he would meet this grandson and should convey the Prophet’s salam to him, which Jabir did in his old age.
