Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha (a.s.) is the eighth Imam of the Ahlulbayt. He was born in Madinah in 148 AH, the son of Imam Musa al-Kazim (a.s.). The Abbasid caliph al-Ma’mun summoned him to Khurasan and named him heir to the caliphate, but the Imam was poisoned and martyred in Tus in 203 AH.On his journey to Khurasan, in the city of Nishapur, he narrated the famous Hadith of the Golden Chain (Silsilat al-Dhahab), in which Allah says that His word “there is no god but Allah” is a fortress, and that the Imam himself is one of its conditions. His shrine in Mashhad, Iran, is visited by millions of pilgrims every year, and he is lovingly called Imam Zamin and Gharib al-Ghuraba.This section brings together articles on his life, debates, sayings, ziyarat and the anniversaries remembered in his name.
