Imam Ali ibn Muhammad al-Hadi (a.s.), also called al-Naqi, is the tenth Imam of the Ahlulbayt. He was born near Madinah in 212 AH, the son of Imam Muhammad al-Jawad (a.s.), and became Imam as a young boy after his father’s martyrdom.The Abbasid caliph al-Mutawakkil brought him from Madinah to Samarra, where he lived for many years under close watch. Despite this he guided his followers through a network of trusted representatives, preparing the community for the coming occultation of Imam al-Mahdi (a.t.f.s.). The comprehensive ziyarat known as Ziyarat al-Jami‘a al-Kabira, which describes the status of all the Imams, is narrated from him. He was martyred in Samarra in 254 AH, and his shrine there, the al-Askariyayn shrine, also holds his son Imam Hasan al-Askari (a.s.).This section collects articles about his life, teachings and anniversaries.
