Hazrat Abbas a.s

Hazrat Abbas ibn Ali (a.s.) was the son of Imam Ali (a.s.) and Bibi Umm al-Banin (s.a.), and the brother of Imam Hasan and Imam Hussain (a.s.). He was born in Madinah on 4 Sha’ban, 26 AH, and is known by the titles Qamar Bani Hashim (the Moon of Bani Hashim), Abul Fazl and Bab al-Hawaij (the door to the fulfilment of needs). At Karbala he was the standard-bearer (alamdar) of Imam Hussain’s (a.s.) small army. When the children of the camp were suffering from thirst, he went to the Euphrates to bring water. He filled the water-skin but refused to drink himself, and was martyred on the way back after losing both his arms. For this he is also remembered as Saqqa, the water-bearer. His shrine stands close to the shrine of Imam Hussain (a.s.) in Karbala. Here you will find articles, majalis and ziyarat about his loyalty, courage and sacrifice.
