Child Safety & Safeguarding

Al Mehdi Online Quran Center teaches children as young as 5 years old in one-on-one online sessions. Because every class happens over a screen rather than in a physical classroom, we hold ourselves to a clear, written safeguarding standard — not just a general promise of “trusted teachers.”

This page explains what we do to keep children safe, what we ask parents to do, and how to raise a concern if something doesn’t feel right.

Our Safeguarding Commitments

  • Every teacher who works with children goes through our vetting process before ever meeting a student — see How We Vet Our Teachers for the full process.
  • Classes are one-on-one and conducted through Microsoft Teams, never through unsupervised messaging apps.
  • We match young students with a teacher of the gender the family requests, and this preference is recorded and respected for the life of the enrollment.
  • Class recordings and chat history are kept within Microsoft Teams and remain available until manually deleted; they are never shared outside the direct teaching relationship without parental consent.
  • Teachers are instructed never to request a child’s personal contact details, social media, or any communication channel outside the platform we provide.

Parent Supervision Guidance

We ask every family to:

  • Be reachable (in the same home, ideally the same room for younger children) during the class, especially in the first few weeks with a new teacher.
  • Use a shared or supervised device for children under 10–12, rather than a child’s personal, unsupervised device.
  • Let us know immediately if a class ever feels inappropriate in tone, content, or teacher conduct — even something minor and hard to name.
  • Review session activity together with your child occasionally, the same way you would for any other online learning platform.

Reporting a Concern

If you ever have a safeguarding concern — about a teacher’s conduct, a class experience, or anything else involving your child’s safety — contact us directly and immediately:

Every safeguarding report is reviewed directly by our admin team. The teacher involved is suspended from further classes immediately and remains suspended for the full duration of the investigation. We treat every report seriously and confidentially — please do not wait for a “serious enough” concern. We would always rather hear about something minor than have a family stay quiet.

Data Privacy for Young Learners

We collect only the information needed to schedule and deliver classes — a parent or guardian’s contact details, the child’s first name and age, and class scheduling preferences. We do not require children to create their own accounts or profiles on third-party platforms. For full detail, see our Privacy Policy.
