Aamal/Dua for the first of Ramadhan

بِسْمِ ٱللّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

allahumma inni as’aluka bismika alladhi dana lahu kullu shay’in

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of Your Name before which everything kneels down,

wa birahmatika allati wasi`at kulla shay’in

in the name of Your mercy which encompasses everything,

wa bi`azamatika allati tawada`a laha kullu shay’in

in the name of Your greatness which dwarfs everything,

wa bi`izzatika allati qaharat kulla shay’in

in the name of Your power which subdues everything,

wa biquwwatika allati khada`a laha kullu shay’in

in the name of Your control which dominates everything,

wa bijabarutika allati ghalabat kulla shay’in

in the name of Your omnipotence which overreaches and possesses everything,

wa bi`ilmika alladhi ahata bikulli shay’in

and in the name of Your knowledge which comprehends everything.

ya nuru ya quddusu

O Light! O Holy!

ya awwalu qabla kulli shay’in

O Foremost before everything!

wa ya baqiyan ba`da kulli shay’in

O Ever-living after all things!

ya allahu ya rahmanu

O Allah! O All-beneficent!

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

Send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati tughayyiru alnni`ama

forgive me my sins that alter the bounties,

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati tunzilu alnniqama

forgive me my sins that bring in punishments,

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati taqta`u alrraja’a

forgive me my sins that cut off hope,

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati tudilu ala`da’a

forgive me my sins that give ascendancy to the enemies,

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati taruddu alddu`a’a

forgive me my sins that preclude the prayers,

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati yustahaqqu biha nuzulu albala’i

forgive me my sins that make me liable to suffer misfortunes,

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati tahbisu ghaytha alssama’i

forgive me my sins that stops the rain of the sky,

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati takshifu alghita’a

forgive me my sins that lay bare the sealed,

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati tu`ajjilu alfana’a

forgive me my sins that whip off destruction,

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati turithu alnnadama

forgive me my sins that leave behind remorse,

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati tahtiku al`isama

forgive me my sins that tear up my integrity,

wa albisni dir`aka alhasinata allati la turamu

surround me with Your impregnable and invincible shield,

wa `afini min sharri ma uhadhiru billayli walnnahari fi mustaqbali sanati hadhihi

and keep me safe from the evil of I beware in nights and days in the beginning of this year.

allahumma rabba alssamawati alssab`i

O Allah, the Lord of the seven skies,

wa rabba al-aradina alssab`i wa ma fihinna wa ma baynahunna

the Lord of the seven (layers of) earth, all that is therein, and all that is between them,

wa rabba al`arshi al`azimi

the Lord of the Great Throne,

wa rabba alssab`i almathani walqur’ani al`azimi

the Lord of the seven oft-repeated verses and the matchless Quran,

wa rabba israfila wa mika’ila wa jabra’ila

the Lord of (Archangels) Seraph, Michael, and Gabriel,

wa rabba muhammadin salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi sayyidi almursalina wa khatami alnnabiyyina

and the Lord of Muhammad, blessings of Allah be on him and on his Household, the Chief of the Messengers, the Seal of Prophet!

as’aluka bika wa bima sammayta bihi nafsaka

I beseech You in Your name and in the name of that which You referred to Yourself!

ya `azimu anta alladhi tamunnu bil`azimi

O Great! You are He who distributes bounties freely,

wa tadfa`u kulla mahdhurin

repels all avoided things,

wa tu`ti kulla jazilin

gives all abundant things,

wa tuda`ifu alhasanati bilqalili wa bilkathiri

doubles the recompense of good deeds with little and much recompense,

wa taf`alu ma tasha’u

and does what He wills.

ya qadiru ya allahu ya rahmanu

O Omnipotent! O Allah! O All-beneficent!

salli `ala muhammadin wa ahli baytihi

Send blessings to Muhammad and his Household,

wa albisni fi mustaqbili sanati hadhihi sitraka

surround me, during this year, with Your protection,

wa naddir wajhi binurika

let Your light beautify my face,

wa ahibbani bimahabbatika

let Your love draw me closest to You,

wa ballighni ridwanaka

and let Your pleasure to reach me

wa sharifa karamatika

as well as Your excellent generosity

wa jasima `atiyyatika

and Your weighty rewards.

wa a`tini min khayri ma `indaka

Give me from the good that You have

wa min khayri ma anta mu`tihi ahadan min khalqika

and from the good You give to any one from among Your creation,

wa albisni ma`a dhalika `afiyataka

and with that kind of Your protection, keep me safe.

ya mawdi`a kulli shakwa

O He Who settles all complaints!

wa ya shahida kulli najwa

O He Who witnesses all confidential talks!

wa ya `alima kulli khafiyyatin

O He Who knows all hidden things!

wa ya dafi`a ma tasha’u min baliyyatin

O He Who repels whatever misfortune He wishes!

ya karima al`afwi

O He Who is oft-forgiving compassionate!

ya hasana alttajawuzi

O He Who overlooks excellently!

tawaffani `ala millati ibrahima wa fitratihi

Make me die following religion and nature of Abraham,

wa `ala dini muhammadin salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi wa sunnatihi

the faith and traditions of Muhammad,

wa `ala khayri alwafati fatawaffani muwaliyan li-awliya’ika

with the best departure, make me die following Your friends,

wa mu`adiyan li-a`da’ika

and antagonizing Your enemies.

allahumma wa jannibni fi hadhihi alssanati

O Allah, keep me far off, during his year,

kulla `amalin aw qawlin aw fi`lin yuba`iduni minka

from every deed, word, or act that takes me away from You,

wajlibni ila kulli `amalin aw qawlin aw fi`lin

bring me near to every deed, word, or act

yuqarribuni minka fi hadhihi alssanata

that takes me near to You in this year.

ya arhama alrrahimina

O most Merciful of all those who show mercy!

wamna`ni min kulli `amalin aw qawlin aw fi`lin

Forbid me to do any deed, word, or act

yakunu minni akhafu darara `aqibatihi

that I fear its result,

wa akhafu maqtaka iyyaya `alayhi

and I fear Your wrath because of it;

hidhara an tasrifa wajhaka alkarima `anni

lest, You may turn Your Noble Face away from me.

fa’astawjiba bihi naqsan min hazzin li `indaka

Then, I am restrained from obtaining my share of good fortune.

ya ra’ufu ya rahimu

O Compassionate! O Merciful!

allahumma ij`alni fi mustaqbili sanati hadhihi fi hifzika

O Allah, keep me, throughout this year, under Your protection,

wa fi jiwarika wa fi kanafika

in Your vicinity, and under Your care.

wa jallilni sitra `afiyatika

Cover me with Your protective covering,

wa hab li karamataka

and give me Your kindness.

`azza jaruka

Strong is he who is in Your vicinity,

wa jalla thana’uka

glorious is Your praise,

wa la ilaha ghayruka

and there is no god but You.

allahumma ij`alni tabi`an lisalihi man mada min awliya’ika

O Allah, make me follow the example of Your upright intimate servants,

wa alhiqni bihim

attach me to them,

waj`alni musalliman liman qala bilssidqi `alayka minhum

make me submissive to those who convey from You truthfully.

wa a`udhu bika allahumma an tuhita bi khati’ati wa zulmi

I seek Your protection, O my God, lest I am encompassed by my sin, wrongdoing,

wa israfi `ala nafsi wattiba`i lihawaya

immoderation towards myself, going after my whims,

washtighali bishahawati

and being involved in my caprices;

fayahulu dhalika bayni wa bayna rahmatika wa ridwanika

as a result, all that will prevent me from attained Your mercy and pleasure

fa-akunu mansiyyan `indaka

and I may be forsaken by You

muta`arridan lisakhatika wa niqmatika

and exposed to Your wrath and chastisement.

allahumma waffiqni likulli `amalin salihin tarda bihi `anni

O Allah, please guide me successfully to every righteous deed due to which You be pleased with me

wa qarribni ilayka zulfa

and take me nearer to You.

allahumma kama kafayta nabiyyaka muhammadan salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi hawla `aduwwihi

O Allah, just as You saved Your Prophet Muhammad—blessings of Allah be on him and his Household—from the terror of his enemies,

wa farrajta hammahu

removed his anxieties,

wa kashafta ghammahu

dispersed his troubles,

wa sadaqtahu wa`daka

proved true the promise You made to him,

wa anjazta lahu `ahdaka

and fulfilled Your word to him,

allahumma fabidhalika fakfini hawla hadhihi alssanati

so also, O Allah, keep me safe from the horror of this year

wa afatiha wa asqamaha

as well as its epidemics, ailments,

wa fitnataha wa shururaha

sedition, evils,

wa ahzanaha wa diqa alma`ashi fiha

sadnesses, and economic distress.

wa ballighni birahmatika kamala al`afiyati

In the name of Your mercy, make me attain perfect wellbeing

bitamami dawami alnni`mati `indi ila muntaha ajali

through the perfection of the perpetuity of Your favors to me up to the end of my lifetime.

as’aluka su’ala man asa’a wa zalama wastakana wa`tarafa

I beseech You the beseeching of one who has made mistake and wronged, but then submitted and confessed.

wa as’aluka an taghfira li ma mada min aldhdhunubi

I beseech You to forgive those earlier sins

allati hasarat-ha hafazatuka

which are counted by Your Preserving Angels

wa ahsat-ha kiramu mala’ikatika `alayya

and recorded by Your appointed Angels,

wa an ta`simani allahumma min aldhdhunubi

to protect me, O Allah, against sinning

fima baqiya min `umri ila muntaha ajali

in the rest of my lifetime up to my death.

ya allahu ya rahmanu ya rahimu

O Allah! O All-beneficent! O All-merciful!

salli `ala muhammadin wa ahli bayti muhammadin

Send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

wa atini kulla ma sa’altuka wa raghibtu ilayka fihi

and give me whatever I have asked from You and whatever I have desirably wanted from You,

fa’innaka amartani bilddu`a’i

for You have ordered me to pray You

wa takaffalta li bil-ijabati

and You have promised of response.

ya arhama alrrahimina

O most Merciful of all those who show mercy!
